Custom printed wrapping paper is one of the more high-end branding pieces a retail or hospitality brand can produce – it turns every gift purchase into a branded experience, and every recipient into a de-facto brand ambassador as they see the wrap around the gift they've received. Rolls or sheets – which should I pick?
Rolls (50m lengths) are right for retail in-store wrapping, where staff pull off the length they need and cut with a dispenser. More cost-efficient per metre, and flexible for gift size. Pre-cut sheets (700x1000mm) suit controlled gift-packing where one sheet wraps one standard item – wedding favour packaging, matched Christmas gift programmes, subscription box inserts. Sheets cost slightly more per square metre but reduce waste and speed packing.
What design works best on wrapping paper?
Repeating tile patterns are the classic choice. Brand colour backgrounds with small logos, icons, or word marks scattered across – the design repeats every 200-400mm so no matter where you cut the sheet, you get a good-looking piece of wrap. Large single-image designs (e.g. a full brand photograph) generally don't work because once cut, only part of the image shows. Our design team can turn a single logo or a brand palette into a working repeat pattern.
Is the print colour-vivid enough?
Yes. We use a wide-format flexographic printer for wrapping paper at our Bracknell print room, which delivers full-colour CMYK print of similar quality to standard poster printing. Some Pantone colours need special attention because thin gift paper can absorb more ink than expected – we handle this at the pre-press stage by adjusting slightly. Samples available on request for very colour-critical orders.
How quickly can you print wrapping paper?
10 working days from artwork approval is our standard turnaround. Custom wrapping paper printing requires dedicated press time, and finishing (slitting to width, rolling, packing, or cutting to sheets) is labour-intensive. For urgent deadlines (e.g. a product launch week), call us on 01344 269692 for the honest answer – we can sometimes expedite for a small rush premium.
What is the minimum order?
1 roll or 50 sheets. That minimum is set by the cost of press setup for a custom print run; smaller quantities don't amortise the setup meaningfully. For high-volume retail programmes (50+ rolls or 1000+ sheets), per-unit cost drops significantly. Most boutique retail orders come through at 5-10 rolls or 250-500 sheets for a season's stock.
