Specifications.

Feather flags (also called beach flags, bow flags, or sail flags) are tall tapered flags that stand 2 to 5 metres high on a flexible fibreglass pole. They read from hundreds of metres away, catch the wind and move, and are the cheapest way to add instant tall branding to a roadside, event pitch, car dealership, or retail forecourt.

The printed fabric skin slides onto the pole like a long sock, the pole assembles in 3 sections, and the whole thing anchors either on a ground spike (for grass, soft ground, or beach), a cross base (for hard ground or indoor use), a wall bracket, or a vehicle mount. Everything needed is included, down to the padded carry bag.

Frequently asked.

Feather, teardrop, or rectangle – which flag shape should I pick?
Feather (tall narrow rectangle, tapered at the top) is the most popular and gives you the most vertical real estate for text and logos. Teardrop (rounded curved top) reads as slightly more premium / modern and is popular with car dealerships and sports venues. Rectangle (top edge held horizontal by a cross bar) gives you the most printable area but catches more wind. Edge / sail flag (wide base, narrow top) is the most dramatic shape but less print space for content.
Which base do I need for a feather flag?
Ground spike for grass, soft soil, or sand – screws into the ground and holds the pole vertical. Cross base for hard surfaces like car parks, pavements, or indoor use – a weighted X-shape the pole slots into. Wall mount for permanent shop-front installation. Vehicle mount (a tyre-base plate) for car dealerships and event pitches where a tyre holds it down. Most orders from our Bracknell print room specify either ground spike or cross base.
Are feather flags double-sided or single-sided?
The standard feather flag is single-sided, which means the print reads correctly from the front and appears mirrored / reversed from the back. For most advertising uses this is fine because the flag is positioned with its front facing the street or event. If you want the flag to read correctly from both directions (e.g. in the centre of an event where people approach from either side), order a double-sided flag with two printed skins. The extra cost is roughly 50 percent over a single-sided flag.
How windy can it be before I should take the flag down?
Feather flags printed at our Bracknell print shop are designed for normal weather up to about 40mph / 65kph winds, which is a strong breeze to near-gale. Above that, take the flag down – not because the print will fail, but because the pole can bend permanently under sustained high-wind flex. For permanently exposed sites like the top of a building or a high cliff edge, wall-mounted rigid signs are a better choice than feather flags.
How quickly can you print feather flags?
3 working days from artwork approval is the standard turnaround. Dye-sublimation printing onto polyester fabric takes longer than PVC banner printing because the ink has to be transferred from paper to fabric and heat-cured.
