Kraft or white paper bags – which should I pick?
Kraft (natural brown) is the right answer for 80 percent of orders. It reads as premium, artisan, sustainable, and pairs with nearly any brand colour as a contrast. White is classic retail and feels slightly more mass-market / crisp – good for pharmacy, mainstream retail, food and drink multiples. Black is high-end premium – fashion, jewellery, boutique. Most Bracknell retailers and takeaways we print paper bags for specify kraft with twisted handles.
Twisted or flat handles?
Twisted paper handles (rope-like paper twisted into a cord) are the most premium-feeling and hold up to ~5kg of product comfortably. Flat paper handles are cheaper but less comfortable to carry and prone to tearing at the attachment under load. No handles (gusseted opening, like a classic grocery bag) work for lightweight takeaway food where the customer won't carry the bag far. For retail and heavy takeaway, twisted handles are the right call.
What size bag do I need?
Depends on what you are putting in it. For a boutique clothing item (a folded t-shirt, a small hat, a pair of shoes): Medium (240x320x90 mm). For takeaway food containers (one large main + sides): Medium or Large depending on portion size. For a bigger retail purchase (a pair of boxed shoes, a wrapped gift): Large. For oversize items (a framed print, a larger gift, multi-item grocery): XL. Send us a photo of the typical contents and we will recommend.
How quickly can you print paper bags?
5 working days from artwork approval is standard from our Bracknell print room. Paper bags take longer than flat print because each bag is printed flat, then glued, seamed, and fitted with handles. Large runs (5,000+) can extend to 7-10 days. For urgent deadlines, call us on 01344 269692 – we can sometimes expedite smaller runs. Collection from Bracknell or delivery by pallet courier for larger orders.
What is the minimum order for printed paper bags?
250 bags is our minimum. Most retail orders come through at 500 to 2,500 for a stock run. Takeaway restaurants typically order 2,500 to 10,000 at a time for a 3-6 month stock. Per-unit cost drops sharply above 1,000 bags because the print-setup and bag-making setup is amortised. For a boutique brand doing 50 bags a month, ordering 500 at a time with a 10-month burn makes sense over small repeat orders.
